Geography

The Philippine archipelago lies in Southeast Asia. The country has over 7,000 island and islets and only about 2000 are occupied. The Capital City of Philippines is Manila.

Climate

The local climate of Philippines is hot, humid, and tropical. There are two seasons: rainy and dry season. The dry season is from November to April and the Wet season is from May to October. It is good to note that Philippine is located also in the typhoon belt. Typhoons usually occur from June to October.

Languages

Filipino and English are the official languages of the Philippines. Despite Filipino being the national language, only 55 percent of the population can speaks the language. English is commonly used for educational, governmental and commercial purposes. It is very common to hear the people use mixture English and Filipino words in their normal conversations.

Religion

About 90 percent of the populations in the Philippines are catholic.

Philippines’s customs and traditions are heavily influenced by its past colonization, especially the Spanish. The Hispanic influences are seen in literature, music, dance, language, food, art and religion. Travelers can see the Spanish architectures being preserved in the Philippines landscape.
